Overview

The Island Peak climbing with the Everest Base Camp trek is an incredible experience in the Himalayas of Nepal. It is intended for fiery and physically fit trekkers with practically zero experience in mountain climbing. Island Peak 6,189m is one of the major climbing peaks in the Everest region of Nepal with a great and profoundly glaciated West Face that ascents from the Lhotse Glacier. Being one of the trekking peaks, Island peak is certainly not a troublesome attempt for an apprentice climber wishing to enter the enigmatic universe of mountain adventure. Several climbers rush to Nepal consistently to get an allowance for Island Peak climbing. Our experience likewise brings us into the heartland of the Khumbu Valley and Sherpa culture. Prior to scaling the peak, we likewise visit, potentially the most prominent trekking goal on the planet – Everest Base Camp 5,357m and Kala Patthar – for the very close views of mount Everest and other high mountains.
The Island peak climbing trip has legitimate and steady acclimatization at reasonable altitudes. The trek starts from and arrives at the most renowned airstrip on the planet, the Lukla Airport in the Everest Region.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the airport, be greeted by our representative waiting outside the terminal. They will escort you to the centrally located hotel in Kathmandu, and assist with the check-in process. After settling in, you can choose to relax at the hotel or visit our Trek Around Himalayas office to gather information about your trip. To cap off your first day, we will treat you to a warm welcome dinner.

The second day of the Island Peak Climbing itinerary is a city tour of Kathmandu, which is the vintage capital of Nepal and holds many ancient arts, temples, and monuments. The city tour includes visiting 3 to 4 world heritage sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, and Swyambhunath Stupa. After the city tour, there will be some last-minute shopping at the marketplace, Thamel, before returning to the hotel for the overnight stay.

Starting your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you'll journey to Tribhuvan International Airport for an early morning flight to Lukla. Lukla serves as the entry point to the Khumbu and the entire Everest Region. Once you've landed, your trek will begin with a gradual uphill hike along the left bank of the Dudh Koshi River, passing by numerous Mani walls before reaching Ghat. From there, you'll encounter a mix of uphill and downhill trekking as you make your way to Phakding.

Today you will trek along Dudhkoshi and Bhotekoshi rivers crossing several suspension bridges. If lucky you may get the first glimpse of Mount Everest and Lhotse while trekking up to Namche Bazar. Through the pine forest. You will experience a combination of uphill and downhill walking. You will halt at the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park for registration purposes, following which you will make a steady ascent towards Namche Bazaar, the hub of the Sherpa community. You will spend an additional day in Namche Bazaar, exploring the area and acclimatizing to the high altitude.

Take a much-needed break in Namche to acclimate your body to the high altitude. The principle of "hike high, sleep low" will be followed, as you hike to higher elevations and return to lower altitudes for rest. On your acclimatization day, embark on a trip to Namche Bazaar, a very bright beautiful Sherpa village ascending about 300m to the town of Khumjung to have stunning views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Damblam, Kongde, Thamserku and many more. Discover local monasteries and schools along the way.

Following your day at Namche Bazaar, you'll trek down to Dudhkoshi River through the Rhododendron forest on your journey to Tengboche. Along the way, you'll traverse the Mongla Pass, reaching an altitude of 3,975m. The trail offers breathtaking views of stunning mountains and eventually leads you to the region's largest and most magnificent monastery, Tenngboche

On your sixth day of adventure, you will trek through a stunning alpine forest. Along the way, you will encounter several quaint mountain villages, providing a glimpse into the lives of the local residents. The trail will lead you across the Imja River and Khumbila Khola Valley, with an ascent towards the ridge that will leave you in awe of the breathtaking surroundings. The path to Dingboche offers a breathtaking view of magnificent peaks such as Mt. Nuptse and Mt. Cholaste, among others.

Today, you will embark on a journey to Lobuche, via a challenging ascent along the steep terminal moraine left by the Khumbu Glacier. The ascent may prove to be a bit of a test, but the breathtaking surroundings will keep you motivated. As you reach the top of the hill, you will be greeted by a sea of memorials honoring the climbers who have lost their lives attempting to conquer the mighty Mount Everest. After a determined climb, you will finally arrive at Lobuche.

Finally, the day you have been eagerly waiting for this trip - the day of your ascent to the Everest Base Camp. Departing early in the morning, you will make your way to Gorakshep. Along the route, you will get a chance to witness the magnificent Khumbu Glacier. The trail toward Gorakshep may become challenging as you get closer, but the breathtaking scenery will keep you motivated. Once you reach Gorakshep, you will continue your journey toward the Everest Base Camp, taking in the awe-inspiring views of the Khumbu Icefall. After a few hours of walking, you will finally reach your destination, the Everest Base Camp. After spending some time taking in the incredible surroundings, you will retrace your steps back to Gorakshep, descending along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. You will spend the night in Gorakshep.

Early in the morning, we'll set out from Gorekshep at around 4:30 AM and make our way to Kalapather for a breathtaking sunrise view. On the journey, the stunning sights of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Pumori will surely captivate us. While some trekkers may choose to turn back after glimpsing Everest, it's recommended to reach Kalapathar for the full sunrise experience. As the sun rises behind the mountains and shines on the snowcapped peaks, the view is truly breathtaking. We'll take plenty of photos and videos to capture this memorable moment. Then, we'll head back to Gorekshep for breakfast. Our goal for the day is to reach Dingboche, so after a hearty meal, we'll pack up and start the descent down the rocky path. As we walk, we'll take in the stunning mountain scenery and the snow-covered landscape, including the yak sheds. We'll spend the night in Dingboche.

Starting with breakfast in Dingboche, we will hike towards Chhukung, reaching our destination after a three-hour trek. Chhukung is a small village situated at the base of Island peak, especially catering to trekkers and climbers. To adjust to the high altitude and gear up for the mountain climb, we will take a rest at a tea house in Chhukung. There, we will gather all the necessary equipment needed for the climb."

Today, we edge closer to our ultimate goal as we leave Chhukung and embark on a journey toward the Island Peak Base Camp. The trail becomes more rugged as we traverse the Imja valley, with a steady ascent that affords us stunning views of towering peaks like Lhotse, Island Peak, and Nuptse.

We anticipate reaching the Island Peak Base Camp, at an altitude of 5087 meters, after a 3/4 hour hike through the picturesque mountain landscapes. This remote location does not have any amenities like tea houses or lodges, so we will be camping for the night. Our camp will be equipped with cooks and cooking supplies to provide you with nutritious meals even in the harsh conditions of the base camp.

As we near the summit, temperatures drop, so it is crucial to stay warm. Imja Lake, a popular and picturesque spot, can also contribute to the chilly nights, so be sure to prepare accordingly."

Today marks a significant moment in our journey. After taking an early morning breakfast, we set out for the climbing portion of our Island Peak expedition. To beat the strong winds that typically pick up after midday, we'll start early and aim to reach the summit before noon.

The climb will present some challenges, such as steep and rough terrain, but our professional Sherpa guides will be there every step of the way to ensure your comfort and safety. They will also provide guidance and support during the technical portions of the climb, making sure that all equipment is secure and failsafe.

After a grueling ascent, you'll finally reach the summit of Island Peak and bask in the beautiful panoramic views. You'll spend some time savoring this momentous achievement before making your way back down to the base camp.

Please note that the descent can be just as challenging, so take your time and trust in your guides. Once back at the base camp, we'll spend one more night in the tented camps and rest before continuing on. Today is the longest and most rewarding day of our trip, with a climbing and trekking time of around 9-10 hours. Make sure to take good care of yourself.

We will head back from Island Peak Summit to Dingboche, a 5-6 hour descent. The trail will be just as beautiful as the climb up and will offer to change air pressure and altitude with views of the surrounding mountains, including the peak that was just summited. After reaching Pangboche, we will rest in the warm and comfortable rooms of a local tea house.

Today, you'll be making your way down to Namche Bazaar. The path leads you down to the Pangboche Village and then continues to descend to the DudhKsohi River bank, where you'll cross a bridge over the Imja Khola, before gradually climbing up to Tengboche. You will spend the overnight in Namche Bazaar.

On the final day of your Island Peak Climbing journey with Trek Around Himalayas, you'll head from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. The route takes you through a dense forest, with a mix of short uphill and downhill walks. You'll cross the Bhote Koshi River three times before making a final 45-minute ascent to reach Lukla."

Start your day with a filling breakfast, then board an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be taken to the hotel. Take some time to rest, or explore the bustling streets of Thamel. Walking around Thamel is a great way to experience the sights and sounds of Kathmandu. To celebrate the successful completion of the trek, Trek Around Himalayas will host a farewell dinner in the evening where you can sit and reflect on your journey.

Your journey home begins today. Our representatives from Trek Around Himalayas will escort you to the International Airport in accordance with your flight schedule. It's recommended to arrive at the airport three hours before your flight. Trek Around Himalayas will provide a fond farewell, ensuring that your experience with us is remembered forever.
