Kailash Mansarovar Trek Overview

Kailash Mansarovar trek will lead you to the holy mount Kailash and lake Mansarovar in Tibet via Simikot, Nepal. You will circumambulate the mount Kailash in three days through the alpine meadows and high passes during the Kailash Mansarovar trek. Your guide will tell you interesting stories about this place where you can still experience the divine connection. It is believed that Hindu deity lord Shiva got his Shivahood after meditating in mount Kailash. This region holds strong spiritual belief regarding attainment of Nirvana. Itinerary For Kailash Mansarovar Trek

Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

Our representative will pick you up at the international airport and drive you to the hotel. After then you will take a meandering evening walk with your guide through Kathmandu’s heritage sites, and get acquainted with one another over dinner together.

Day 2Kathmandu Sightseeing

Today you will spend the day discovering medieval Kathmandu. Venture into Pashupatinath and visit Nepal’s largest Buddhist stupa, the Boudhanath Stupa. Later after noon you will visit monkey temple and then stroll around durbar squares in the evening. Overnight stay at hotel near Thamel.

Day 3Kathmandu to Nepalgunj: 1 hour

Today you will take a flight to Nepalgunj which is one of the major city of Nepal. In Nepalgunj you will explore the plains of terai and discover the unique lifestyle. You will stay overnight in a hotel in Nepalgunj.

Day 4Nepalgunj to Dharapori (2,360m/7,740ft) 4 - 6 hours

You will take a 40 minute flight on a twin otter airplane to Simikot in Humla district. Afterwards you will trek through the remote villages and forests along the river Karnali and get to Dharapori for staying overnight.

Day 5Dharapori to Kermi (2,860m/9,383ft): 5 - 6 hours

You will continue trekking along side the river Karnali. You will trek through picturesque farm fields, alpine meadows and forests and get to Kermi. Your guide will take you to explore Laikyo and Lhundrup Choeling monateries. You will also get an opportunity to dip in natural hot spring near Karmi. You will stay overnight in Kermi.

Day 6Kermi to Yalbang (2,879m/9,445ft): 5 - 6 hours

Your trek continues along side the river Karnali which originates from lake Mansarovar. Today you will cross the river Salli and trek through beautiful conifer forest. Your guide will also lead you to Namkha monastery where you can discover the traces of ancient trade route. You will continue trekking to Yalbang and stay ovenight.

Day 7Yalbang to Tumkot (3,073m/10,082ft): 5 - 6 hours

You will trek through dispersed Juniper trees on the rocky hills and get to Tumkot. Your guide will take you to explore Dhungkar monastery and tell you interesting stories related to it. You will stay overnight in Tumkot

Day 8Tumkot to Yari (3,663m/12,017ft): 6 - 7 hours

You will continue trekking along side the river Karnali. You can observe the change in climate and vegetation. You will trek through Juniper shrubs through rocky terrain. This trails is amongst the least trekked trail in Nepal. You can still discover the pristine environment throughout this trail. Further trekking you will get to Yari where you will stay overnight.

Day 9Yari to Hilsa (3,647m/11,965ft) via Nara La pass: 5 - 6 hours

You will cross Nara La pass at 4620m from where you will get stunning views of Tibetan plateau and Yari village. You will trek through barren rocky mountain pass and descend down to Hilsa. Hilsa is border between Nepal and China. At Hilsa you will see Hindu pilgrims arriving from Helicopter. You will stay overnight in Hilsa.

Day 10Hilsa to Purang (3,772m/12,375ft): 2 - 3 hours

Today you will cross Nepal China Friendship Bridge. You will meet your Tibetan guide at the check post. You will continue trekking further and get to Rinzin Zangpo monastery. Your guide will brief you about this ancient Gompa. After then you will trek through Kangie village and get to Purang monastery. You will explore this ancient 12th century monastery and your guid will brief you with its interesting stories. Trekking further you will get to Purang for staying overnight.

Day 11Purang to Montser (4,450m/14,599ft): 3 - 4 hours

Today you will trek by the Rakshas and Mansarovar lakes and get to Montser. Afterwards your guide will take you to explore Tirthapuri where you can dip in natural hot spring. Your guide will tell you interesting stories about Guru Rinpoche and this place. Then you will visit the monastery containing Guru’s foot print and trek back to Tirthapuri for staying overnight.

Day 12Montser to Darchen (4,560m/14,956ft) via Garuda Valley: 3 - 4 hours

Today you will trek to Garuda valley near to mount Kailash. The valley treasures hidden unexplored caves. Your guide will tell you interesting stories about Shang Shung Kings who ruled this place long ago than Buddhism flourished in Tibet. This will be a very rewarding day on your trek as you will get to observe ancient archeological sites of Garuda valley. After trekking through the valley you will get to Darchen where you will stay overnight.

Day 13Darchen to Diraphuk (5120m/16,792ft), 5 - 6 hours

Today is the first day of circumambulating holy mount Kailash. You will trek through the deep valley get to Shersong. Further trekking you will cross a bridge and get to Chhuku monastery. Afterwards you will further trek to Diraphuk where you can get mystic views of mount Kailash. You will stay overnight in Diraphuk.

Day 14Diraphuk to Zthulphuk (4790m/15,765ft): 18km, 6 - 7 hours

You will continue circumambulating mount Kailash for the second day. Today you will cross Dolma La pass at 5630m and descend down to Lake of Compassion. From here your guide will show you interesting caves used by ancient people while mediating at this place. Afterwards you will continue trekking and get to Zuthulphuk for staying overnight.

Day 15Zuthulphuk to Mansarovar Lake (4,560m/15,000ft): 14km, 3 - 4 hours

Today is the third and last day of circumambulation of mount Kailash. You will trek through the plains fo Barkha and get to Darchen. After then you will take a jeep drive to lake Mansarovar. You can take a dip in this lake which is believed to heal your body. Hindus pilgrims believe that they will go to Shiva Lok if they take a holy bath at lake Mansarovar. You guide will tell you many interesting stories related to this mystic place throughout the trek.

Day 16Explore Lake Mansarovar

Today you will take a 90 Km drive around the lake Mansarovar and experience it epic beauty. The lake is highest freshwater lake in world. On the way we will venture into Chui monastery. According to Hinduism it is believed that taking holy bath in this lake and drinking its water will liberate on from the sins of hundred lives. You will stay overnight near lake Mansarovar.

Day 17Mansarovar to Saga (4,600m/15,088ft) 495 km, 8 – 9 hours

Today you will take a jeep drive via Chiu monastery and get to Mayum La pass at 5200m. After ward you will continue the scenic drive through the small towns of Zhongba. From there you will drive to Saga and stay overnight.

Day 18Saga to Shigatse (3,900m/12,795 ft): 445km, 8-9 hours

Today you will continue driving towards Shighatse along the river Tsangpo. In Shigatse your guide will lead you to explore 14th century Tashi Lhunpo monastery and tell interesting stories about this place. You will stay overnight in Shigatse.

Day 19Shigatse to Lhasa (3,650m/11,972ft): 265km, 4-5 hours

You will further drive to Shalu monastery where you can discover ancient Mural paintings. Today you will cross Karo La pass at 5045m. Afterwards you will cross Khamba La Pass at 4794m. From there you can get stunning views of Turquoise Lake and Nazin Kang Sang glacier at 7252m. Continuing further you will reach Lhasa city where you will stay overnight.

Day 20Lhasa to Kathmandu

Today you will take a flight to Kathmandu from Lhasa city. Until your flight your guide will lead you around this beautiful ancient city and make most out of your last hours in Tibet. You will land in Kathmandu and your guide will drive you to your hotel. Rest of the day you can spend in leisure and in the evening you will be invited in the farewell dinner program from the company. You will stay overnight in a hotel near

Day 21Final Departure

Make the most of your last minutes in Kathmandu with breakfast in a bistro, a city walk, and additionally trinket shopping. Your guide will meet you at your inn and drive you to the airport two hours before the scheduled flight.
