Trip highlights

Overview

The Mardi Himal Yoga Trek is a hidden gem located near one of the most popular trails of Annapurna Sanctuary. It's a newly opened trail, which means that few trekkers make their way to Mardi Himal Base Camp. This leads to a peaceful and relatively empty trail that provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with the sacred Machhapuchhre mountain.

From the High Camp, trekkers can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Annapurna range and the surrounding area from a bird's eye view. This trek is perfect for those seeking unspoiled nature and solitude, away from the crowds and commerce. In addition to the scenic beauty, this trek also offers a great cultural experience. On the descent through a different trail, trekkers get to witness local life in traditional villages like Siding and Lwang.

Lwang, in particular, is famous for its organic tea plantation, stone-paved streets, and great mountain views. The trail leads through magical rhododendron forests until it abruptly changes into a rough high mountain landscape with amazing views of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.

There are simple teahouses and homestays along the way, and trekkers are likely to encounter very few other trekkers in this secluded and pristine region. The lack of disturbance by many other trekkers also increases the chance to encounter wildlife.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the airport, be greeted by our representative waiting outside the terminal. They will escort you to the centrally located hotel in Kathmandu, and assist with the check-in process. After settling in, you can choose to relax at the hotel or visit our Trek Around Himalayas office to gather information about your trip. To cap off your first day, we will treat you to a warm welcome dinner

The second day of the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek itinerary is a city tour of Kathmandu, which is the vintage capital of Nepal and holds many ancient arts, temples, and monuments. The city tour includes visiting 3 to 4 world heritage sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, and Swyambhunath Stupa. After the city tour, there will be some last-minute shopping at the marketplace, Thamel, before returning to the hotel for the overnight stay.

Start your day early with a tourist coach transport from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Along the way, you'll be treated to stunning views of the mighty Himalaya massifs, as well as green hills and dramatic river valleys. Once in Pokhara, settle in for an overnight stay and begin preparing for your upcoming yoga trek. This includes a detailed briefing, last-minute shopping, and packing

We start our day with a morning yoga session followed by breakfast, then embark on a journey to Pothana at an elevation of 1950m. Our trek begins with a steep climb through the jungle, and as we pass local villages, we can enjoy the scenic views. Upon reaching Australian Camp, we will be greeted with breathtaking views of the mountains. After that, we continue our trek along a gentle trail until we reach Pothana, where we will spend the night.

Throughout most of the day, we will embark on a steep uphill climb through dense jungle, where we will be blessed with stunning vistas of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain ranges. We might even be fortunate enough to spot some of the abundant wildlife in the area, such as deer, monkeys, and various species of birds. Later in the afternoon, we will arrive at Forest Camp, which is situated at an altitude of 2600m and is surrounded by a forest. Here, we will spend the night at simple teahouse lodges.

Today's trek is a relatively short distance but includes a steep ascent through the enchanting rhododendron and juniper forest. While leaving Forest Camp, the trail is quite steep, but as we climb up the ridge, it gradually becomes more manageable. After around three hours of trekking through more jungle, with occasional glimpses of Annapurna South, we will reach Low Camp at 3100m. There are only a few lodges in Low Camp, but they offer a magnificent view of the fishtail and Pokhara Valley. We will spend the night here.

As we leave Low Camp, the trail initially leads us through the jungle, but gradually the trees begin to shrink. After about an hour of trekking, we will find ourselves on an open ridge, offering breathtaking views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Mardi Himal, Hiunchuli and many more towering above the tree line. The trail undulates along the ridge, and after approximately 3-4 hours of trekking, we will reach High Camp at 3550m, where we will spend the night in a tea house.

Today, an early wake-up call awaits, so that you can witness the awe-inspiring sunrise views of the mighty Himalayas. After breakfast, we will embark on a challenging journey to climb up to Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at 4500m. The trek involves walking along narrow and rocky trails, but the effort will be worthwhile as we soak in the breathtaking views of this majestic mountain environment. Machhapuchhre is a revered mountain for both Hindus and Buddhists and so far, no one has been able to reach its summit. At the viewpoint, there is a tea shop where we can enjoy a cup of tea and a packed lunch before returning to High Camp to spend the night once again

During our return journey, we will take a different route. Instead of going back to Forest Camp, we will follow a trail from Low Camp that leads us to the charming village of Siding. This traditional village is away from the bustling tourist trails and offers a wonderful opportunity to immerse ourselves in Nepalese village life and learn more about the local culture. We will spend the night at a homestay or teahouse in Siding.

On our final day, we will have breakfast before departing from Siding to Lumle. Along the way, we will cross several suspension bridges and witness stunning waterfalls, as we pass by charming Gurung villages. We will encounter many schoolchildren who will greet us with a friendly "Namaste" and ask for sweets, and their sweet gestures and smiles will surely warm your heart. After a three-hour trek, we will reach Lumle, from where we will embark on a 1.5-hour drive to Pokhara. We will spend our last night in Pokhara.

( The yoga guru will provide a 30-minute yoga class in the morning)

As we reach the end of your trip, we will arrive in Pokhara. You will have the option to decide whether you would like to extend your stay in Pokhara and participate in other activities or proceed with your departure plans. If you do not have any further plans, you may choose to drive to Kathmandu before departing to your final destination.
